Burglar hits Smithfield home
Smithfield police are investigating a burglary that happened sometime between 9 p.m. March 23 and 11 a.m. March 25 at a Martin Street home, according to a report.A Third Avenue resident told police that someone used a blunt object to break the back door glass at the 830 Martin St. residence she owns. Nothing was reported stolen from the property.
Thieves nab copper wire
Thieves have stolen copper wire worth thousands of dollars from construction sites across Johnston County, the Sheriff’s Office reported.On Tuesday, deputies investigated several reports of copper thefts from subdivisions under construction. People are likely selling the wire to scrap yards, said Tammy Amaon, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office. “It’s easy, quick money for thieves,” she said.Someone stole $500 of wire from 205 Annandale Dr. near Clayton, according to a report. Just down the street at 212 Annandale Dr. $1,000 worth of wire was stolen the same day.Deputies investigated reports of $375 worth of copper tubing stolen from 86 Crest Circle near Garner and $750 worth stolen from 70 Crest Circle. Also, $375 worth of copper tubing was reported stolen from 56 Callahan Trail near Garner.In Smithfield, someone stole a 22-foot copper wire worth $500 from a construction site, according to an investigation report.Amaon said workers often make the mistake of leaving copper wire out after the workday ends. “They need to stop doing that,” she said.
Clayton man charged with trespassing
Clayton police arrested a 63-year-old man for refusing to leave a convenience store Tuesday.William France Rigsbee, of 5858 Little Creek Church Road, Clayton, was charged with one count of second-degree trespassing, according to a report.Hasty Mart employee told police Rigsbee would not leave the N.C. 42 West store after she asked him to do so.
