Two men arrested for cocaine
Two men were arrested on drug charges Monday morning in Smithfield. At 10:40 a.m., Orbin Josue Zelaya Veliz, 18, of 213 E. Holt St. and Jose Luis Martinez, 25, of 934 Blount St. were arrested at West and Midway streets. Each was carrying three grams of crack cocaine, according to a police report.

Veliz was charged with cocaine possession and failure to comply with restrictions, and Martinez was charged with cocaine possession and drug paraphernalia possession. Both were taken to the Johnston Jail and placed under $20,000 bonds.

Car strikes pedestrian
A Princeton woman was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital Monday morning after she was struck by a car while crossing Market Street, according to a report.

At 9:19 a.m., Ronald Parker Jr. of 185 Stockbridge Road in Selma had slowed for a red light at Second Street. When the light turned green, he started driving through the intersection. Sudie Worley Baker, of 180 Long Leaf Road stepped into the path of Parker’s Ford.

Baker’s condition was not available.

Thief nabs car parts, tools
A Clayton-area towing business reported Monday that $2,750 worth of car parts and tools were stolen.

Freepo Recovery, at 7746 U.S. 70, reported to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office that someone stole a truck tailgate, five catalytic converters, a toolbox and cordless tools, according to a report.

Another business receives fake money
Costcutters at Carolina Premium Outlets became the eighth Smithfield business to report a counterfeit $100 bill, according to a report. Someone from the store filed a report with Smithfield police Monday morning, saying that someone used a counterfeit bill between 7:33 p.m. March 21 and 10 a.m. March 24 to purchase haircare products. The customer left the store with about $70 change.

Tile stolen from home
Pieces of tile were stolen from a Clayton home Monday, police reported. The tile was taken from an unsecured home on Mantle Drive, according to a report. The items were valued at $500.

Man arrested for driving drunk
Authorities arrested a Smithfield man Monday for driving while impaired and having a revoked driver’s license.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office charged Jose Miguel Plata, 32, of 1915 S. Bright Leaf Blvd. Plata was jailed under a $2,000 bond, according to a report.
