Burglar nabs jewelry, cash
Clayton police are investigating a break-in at a Clayton home Wednesday. An Alder Lane resident reported a window had been damaged and a bracelet, a purse and $125 cash was taken from the residence. Damage to the window was estimated at $50, according to a report.
More cars broken into
Clayton police are still dealing with a rash of car larcenies, according to reports.Residents on McKinnon Drive and McKenzie Circle reported an iPod and prescription medicine missing from their vehicles Thursday. Earlier this week, 10 homeowners along Biltmore Drive, Meadow Run, West Gannon Street, Cricket Hollow Run, Parkside Village Drive and Sleepy Creek Drive reported thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was taken from their unlocked vehicles.More than two dozen car larcenies have occurred in Clayton in the past two weeks, police reported. Clayton police arrested 17-year-old Joshua Dale, of 89 Middlecrest Way, Clayton, Wednesday. Dale is suspected of entering seven unlocked cars at five locations in Glen Laurel subdivision. More arrests are likely to follow, police say.In the meantime, police urged residents to keep their vehicles locked. Also, all personal belongings should be in a secured location. The larcenies have occurred at night with vehicles parked at curbside or in private driveways.Anyone with information about the larcenies is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 553-4611. A cash reward is available for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.
Employee charged with larceny
An employee of Texas Steakhouse on Industrial Park Drive in Smithfield was charged with larceny by employee Thursday afternoon.Jermaine Eugene Allen, 37, of 509 Mill St., Smithfield was arrested at 3:49 p.m. at his home, according to a report. He was taken to the Johnston Jail and placed under a $20,000 bond.Other employees told Smithfield police that $120 cash was taken from the eatery between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.
Two arrested, but for different crimes
Smithfield police on Wednesday served a warrant on a Four Oaks woman wanted for an armed robbery. Patricia Marcum Maynard, 42, of 1335 Parker Road was arrested at 2:56 p.m. at 1251 N. Bright Leaf Blvd. on a warrant issued Aug. 8. 2007. She was taken to the Johnston Jail and no bond was set, according to a report.Earlier in the day, Smithfield police arrested a man with an address the same as or similar to Maynard’s. David Tony Johnson, 57, of 1335 A Parker Road was taken into custody on Brogden Road, near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and charged with procuring prostitution. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.Tara Mae Morrison, 28, listed as homeless was arrested with Johnson. Police had a warrant issued in March 28 for her for a probation violation charge. She was taken to the Johnston Jail and placed under a $25,000 bond.
Woman reports break-in, theft
Smithfield police are investigating a break-in and burglary at a Twelfth Street home.A Twelfth Street resident told police Thursday that sometime between noon and 12:05 p.m. March 31, someone broke into the home and stole a television, a portable DVD player and a $400 money order, according to a report.
Driver taken to hospital after wreck
A Clayton woman was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital Thursday evening following a wreck on U.S. 70 Business near Front Street.Barbara Jean Morgan, of 654 Blue Pond Road was driving her Toyota west when she slowed to make a right turn into the parking lot of 436 U.S. 70 Business, according to a report.Leslie Eugene Davis Jr. of 515 Lassiter Road in Four Oaks was traveling behind her in a Chevy, and swerved to the left to avoid striking Morgan’s vehicle. However, he was unable to avoid hitting it at about 10 mph. Davis said the wet roadway left him unable to stop in time.
