Man accused of disturbing neighbors
Clayton police on Tuesday charged a local man with causing a disturbance. Richard Bryan Puryear, 36, of 601 Boling St., was charged with one count of violating a city ordinance. Police reported that Puryear was disturbing his neighbors by being loud and cursing outside his home.

Woman suspected of stealing
A Clayton woman was arrested for stealing food from a local grocery store Tuesday. Vonda Lynn Daniels, 41, of 2060 Winston Road, was charged with one count of shoplifting, according to a report. She is accused of pocketing $30 worth of merchandise from Lowes Food on U.S. 70 West in Clayton, police reported.

Town property damaged
A mirror was damaged at a building owned by the Town of Clayton Monday, according to police. Employee Ian Crowell reported that a rock had been thrown at a glass mirror inside a bathroom on Amelia Church Road. Damage to the property was estimated at $100.

Employee suspected of embezzlement
Smithfield police are investigating another embezzlement report from Texas Steakhouse on Industrial Park Drive. Last week, a worker from the restaurant was arrested for allegedly taking $120.

Tuesday morning, a company representative told Smithfield police that an employee embezzled $200 from the restaurant sometime between Feb. 29 and March 1, according to a report.

Man reports robbery
A Washington, D.C. man told Smithfield police that someone brandishing a knife robbed him of $900 Tuesday. The incident took place about 3:30 p.m. in a parking lot of 600 S. Bright Leaf Blvd. The man said a robber forced him to hand over the cash, and $40 was later recovered, according to a report.
