Man stabbed at drag strip
A Benson man was stabbed while attending an event at Dunn-Benson Dragstrip, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said about 2,000 people were at the event on Thursday. A fight broke out among 20 people, and an unknown person cut a 22-year-old man across the back, she said. The man's cousin took him to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn to get the wound stitched, she said.

Deputies investigate theft, attempt
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a larceny at a restaurant in the Cleveland community.

A Smithfield Chicken & Bar-B-Que co-owner reported that she saw an employee stealing $180 from a cash register on a video camera Thursday, said Tammy Amaon, sheriff’s spokeswoman. The owner planned to terminate the employee and press charges, Amaon said.

Also, in Cleveland, someone attempted to steal money from another restaurant on Thursday but was unsuccessful. The owner of Grand Street Pizza said two cash registers were damaged, but no money was stolen, Amaon said. The owner said a back door was unlocked, and most likely used to gain entry into the building, she said. Damage to the cash registers was estimated $300.

Thief hits Family Dollar
Clayton police are investigating a larceny from Family Dollar. A store employee reported that the building on U.S. 70 West was broken into and $164 stolen from an office Wednesday.

Man arrested for being disruptive
A Selma man was arrested for being disruptive and assaulting another man Wednesday, Benson police reported.

Joel Dean Coker, 47, of 102 E. Railroad St., was charged with one count of drunk and disruptive behavior. According to an arrest report, officers found Coker, who was heavily intoxicated, on East Main Street. The man who reported Coker’s behavior said Coker spit in his face at a car lot earlier that day.
