Police investigate three larcenies
Clayton police are investigating three larcenies, including the theft of $500,000 worth of liquor, that occurred over the weekend.

Cowan Systems, of Jefferson, Me., reported that a locked truck had been stolen from a parking lot on U.S. 70 Business West Friday. The vehicle and a trailer contained $500,000 worth of liquor, according to a police report.

Also a Wendell man said a several tools, including an air-blower, a power washer and a can of gas, were missing from the back of his truck. He said the incident occurred in a Town Centre Boulevard parking lot Saturday. The items were valued at $426.

The following day, a Clayton man reported that a handgun, worth $600, was taken from his vehicle while it was parked on Enterprise Drive.

Domestic incident turns violent
Benson police on Friday responded to a domestic argument that left both parties injured.

A 20-year-old woman reported that she and her boyfriend, who both have the same South Railroad Street address, got into an argument at their home, according to a report. She reported that her boyfriend grabbed her hair, pulled her down on the floor and stepped on her face.

She threw her cellular telephone at the boyfriend and went after him with a pair of scissors, according to the report. The 18-year-old boyfriend threw a brick at the woman's car, which busted the back window and a brake light, the report stated.

Woman arrested for probation violation
A woman living at the Super 8 motel on Industrial Park Drive in Smithfield was arrested Monday night for probation violation after reporting that she was assaulted.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, Jennifer Deanna Barnella Coats, 29, came to the Smithfield Police Department to report an assault by an acquaintance, according to a report. She was taken into custody for violating probation. Coats was taken to the Johnston County Jail and placed under a $50,000 bond.

Three taken to hospital after wreck
Three people were taken to area hospitals after a Friday night wreck on N.C. 210 between Interstate 40 and N.C. 50. The wreck happened at 9:40 p.m, according to a state Highway Patrol report.

Michael Earl Gertz, 39, of 291 Spearhead Place, Clayton, was making a left turn from a parking area onto N.C. 210 and turned into the path of a Honda driven by Ben Carroll Wesson Jr., 49, 103 Westgate Circle, Angier, striking the vehicle in the right door. Larue Baird Faucett, 45, of Wesson’s address was a passenger in that car.

According to the report, Gertz was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash, and struck Faucett’s car at about 30 mph.

Gertz was charged with reckless driving and DWI. He was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital with possible injuries. Both Wesson and Faucett were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for possible injuries.
