Ice cream store reports embezzlement
Smithfield police are investigating a report of embezzlement from Coldstone Creamery on South Equity Drive, according to a report.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, someone from the ice cream shop reported that an undisclosed amount of money was embezzled possible going back as far as April 17.

Man suspected of breaking into outreach site
A Smithfield man was arrested Wednesday and charged with breaking and entering and larceny related to an incident earlier that night.

Phillip Reed Russell, 36, of 934 Blount St. was arrested at home at 10:45 p.m. in relation to a break-in and robbery reported an hour earlier at Lifehouse Outreach at 401 S. Sixth St.

According to a report filed with Smithfield police, Russell is suspected of using a stolen key to enter the building between 9 and 9:40 p.m.

Russell was taken to the Johnston County Jail and placed under a $20,500 bond.

Smithfield man arrested for drugs
A Smithfield man is in the Johnston Jail under a $16,000 bond for cocaine possession and driving while impaired. Smithfield police stopped Justin Wade Griffin, 25, of 1943 W. Market St., at 11:58 Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 301 North and North Street, according to a report.

Woman arrested for shoplifting
Clayton police on Wednesday arrested a Bunn woman for stealing items from a grocery store.

Kierra Shanee Hartsfield, 18, was charged with one count of shoplifting. According to a police report, she hid packages of lamb legs and packets of Kool-Aid in her purse while shopping at Food Lion on U.S. 70 West.
