Man charged with strangling resident
A Smithfield man is in the Johnston County Jail under a $50,000 bond after being charged with first-degree burglary and assault by strangulation.At 6:20 a.m. Sunday, Rodrigo Austin Borja, 42, of 415 Bridge St., told police that someone broke into his home and assaulted him about 4:30 a.m. Smithfield police arrested Gilberto Aparicio-Ramirez, 27, of 522 S. Fifth St. on the 100 block of N. Seventh St. and charged him with the two crimes at 6:50 a.m., according to a report.
Man accused of exposing himself
A Selma man was arrested Saturday night for exposing himself at a grocery store at 901 S. Bright Leaf Blvd.Jeremy Lee Holmes, 19, of 1700 Pinrose St., was arrested at 9:39 p.m., according to a report. He was charged with indecent exposure where the defendant is over 18 and the victim is younger than 16. He was jailed under a $25,000 bond.
Man arrested for choking fiancée
A Clayton man was arrested Sunday for trying to choke his fiancée three times, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office reported.Westley Walker Satterwhite, 25, of 65 Stonewall Dr., was charged with one count of assault on a female.Sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said Satterwhite and his fiancée got into an argument at their home. The couple, who had both been drinking, would not tell deputies what caused the argument, she said. When the woman tried to leave, Satterwhite grabbed her arm, threw her on the couch and started choking her, Amaon said. He also tossed her against the wall and began choking her again later, Amaon said. After the woman managed to calm Satterwhite down, he left the room, Amaon said. The woman then fled down the road until Satterwhite caught up and shoved her on the ground, Amaon said. Deputies found red marks on the woman's neck consistent with choking, Amaon said.
Money stolen from restaurant
Money was stolen from a restaurant in the Cleveland community Monday, according to the Johnston County’s Sheriff’s Office.Andy’s Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers on Bratton Drive was forcibly entered, according to a report. About $2,000 was taken and a glass door damaged, the report stated.
Deputies search for teen
Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a runaway teen from Cleveland.Christine Cooper, of North Shiloh Road, reported that her 16-year-old son, Christian Adams, did not return home from school Friday, said sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon. Adams called Cooper Friday evening to let her know he was looking for another place to live, Amaon said.A description of the teen was not available, she said.
Woman accused of forgery
A local woman was arrested early Sunday morning after employees at CVS Pharmacy on North Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield reported that she tried to obtain a controlled substance by forgery.Bridget Salyers Williams, 31, of 152 Beadle Court, was arrested at the store at 12:18 a.m., according to a report. She was taken to the Johnston Jail and held under a $10,000 bond.
Selma man arrested for theft
Smithfield police on Saturday arrested a man wanted by Dunn police on larceny and possession of stolen property charges.Darryl Twan Hines, 42, of 706 S. Raiford St., Selma, was arrested at 802 Martin St. at 12:27 p.m. He was taken to the Johnston County Jail and placed under a $10,000 bond.
Woman reports car theft
Smithfield police are investigating a report of a stolen car. A Selma resident told police at 9:21 a.m. Friday that her 1999 Nissan Sentra was stolen from 704 East St. between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. April 4.
Three arrested for counterfeit goods
Three men were arrested for selling counterfeit goods from a downtown Smithfield business, the state Alcohol Law Enforcement agency reported.Osama Ismael, 26, of Wilson, and Mohamed Eldewik, 26, and Wael Dewik, 32, both of Raleigh, were charged with possession of counterfeit goods Thursday. Ismael was placed under a $50,000 bond. Eldewik and Dewik were given bonds of $25,000 apiece.Glenn Branch, assistant supervisor for ALE, said Ismael owned New York Style, a clothing store, on North Bright Leaf Boulevard. Ismael and employees Eldewik and Dewik are suspected of selling counterfeit name brand clothing at the store, Branch said. Agents seized $13,000 worth of counterfeit items last week, he said.ALE, Smithfield Police Department and N.C. Secretary of State worked together on the investigation.
Two charged with drug possession
Clayton police arrested two men for drugs Friday.PomoRantz Tyrone Yates, 25, and Maurice Carlos Hooks, 19, both of Kinston, were charged with one count each of possession or marijuana, according to reports. They were both placed under $750 bonds.Yates and passenger Hooks were pulled over on U.S. 70 West for speeding 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. Police found six grams of marijuana and $9,200 cash in the vehicle, according to the reports. In addition to the drug charges, Yates was cited for speeding.
Thefts from cars keep police busy
Clayton police are still investigating larcenies from cars.A Parkridge Drive resident told police that a camera and other items were taken from his vehicle while it was parked at his home Saturday. The items were valued at $170, according to a report.Police have arrested five men in connection to more than 24 larcenies from cars over the past several weeks. Among them was Noah Chandler Crowder, 19, of 604 S. John St., who was charged with one additional count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny Saturday. Crowder has now been charged with 59 counts of breaking and entering, larceny and drug violations.
