Man accused of growing pot in yard
Sheriff's deputies found marijuana plants outside of a Selma man’s home Thursday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Ernest George Garner Jr., 49, of 848 Garner Road, was arrested and charged with two counts of probation violation and one count of manufacturing marijuana. He was placed under $60,000 bond.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said deputies went to Garner’s home to serve warrants for probation violation. Garner ran into the woods, but later returned when deputies found two marijuana plants growing in his front yard, she said.

Man charged with selling cocaine
Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday nabbed a Clayton man for drugs during an undercover investigation.

Michael Travis Pearson, 47, of 510 Camel St., was arrested and charged with one count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and selling cocaine, according to a report. His bond was set at $25,000.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said an informant bought 1 gram of crack cocaine from Pearson on East Main Street in Clayton.

Teen suspected of theft
A teen is suspected of breaking into a Cleveland home and stealing a gun, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Christian James Andrews, 16, of 3016 North Shiloh Road in the Cleveland community, was arrested and charged with one count each of breaking and entering and larceny of a firearm Saturday. His bond was set at $30,000.

James Carter, a neighbor of Andrews, called Andrews’ parents and said that he believed Andrews had stolen a gun from his home, said sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon. Deputies found the gun hidden in a cooler in a storage shed at Andrews’ home, she said.

Thieves hit homes, businesses
Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to several larcenies at homes and businesses this past weekend, according to reports.

CLC Services reported fishing equipment was taken from the Federal Road business in Benson Friday. The items were valued at $2,585.

A Smithfield woman said cameras, a microwave, DVDs, a computer and other electronics were stolen from her home on U.S. 70 Sunday. The items were worth $6,156.

A Willow Spring woman reported jewelry, a computer, a television and a lock box were missing from her home Ajuga Court home Sunday. The items were valued at $3,928.

Tools worth $1,050 were taken from an Elevation Road home in Four Oaks Saturday.

Century Steps, of U.S. 70 East in Princeton, reported that $1,069 was stolen from the business Friday. Damage to a window that was broken was estimated at $500.

Three men arrested for drugs
Three men were arrested on Sunday for drugs, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office reported.

Patrick Shane O’Quinn, 20, of 2453 Sanders Road, Willow Spring was charged with one count each of misdemeanor larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, felonious possession of marijuana and conspiring to sell or deliver marijuana. He was also charged with failure to appear in court for driving while license revoked and possession of up to half-ounce of marijuana. O’Quinn was placed under a $40,000 bond.

Jaddius Ray Horton, 23, of 2003 Old Route 22, Kenly, and Jeremy Kyle Price, 20, of 330 S. Fayetteville St., Clayton, were each charged with one count of conspiring to sell or deliver marijuana. They were each placed under $20,000 bonds.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said a man reported seeing two men hiding in a field near his home on Brogden Road Sunday. The man reported that the men hopped in a white Ford Explorer. A deputy found the Explorer later at Old Sanders and Brogden roads, Amaon said.

Three men got out of the vehicle when the deputy approached it, Amaon said, adding that the deputy saw O’Quinn drop rolling papers on the ground. Deputies later found 55 grams of marijuana in the field the men were hiding in earlier, Amaon said. Also, digital scales were located in the vehicle, she said.

Clayton man nabbed for drugs
Clayton police on Friday arrested a local man for drugs during a vehicle stop.

Cornelius Latrelle McKoy, 21, of 516 Angus Court, was charged with one count of possession of marijuana, according to a report. He was stopped at Barbour and Handy streets in a 2004 Dodge. Police found 23 grams of marijuana, according to the report.

Ice cream shop's window broken
Cold Stone Creamery's glass window was broken Sunday evening when a driver accidentally ran up onto the sidewalk, pushing a bench through the window.

At 8:34 p.m. Meghan Lee Wells of 308 Canterbury Road was pulling into a parking space in front of the eatery and accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, according to a Smithfield police report.

The damage to the window is estimated at $5,000. Wells was not charged.

Fight reported
Two Clayton men got into a brawl at a local residence Saturday, Clayton police reported.

Kevin Johnson and Shane Johnson, both of McKinnon Drive, got into a fight at Kevin Johnson’s home. Only minor injuries, including loss of teeth, were reported from the altercation.
