Fifth arrest in car break-ins
Clayton police have charged a fifth suspect in a series of larcenies from cars.Colton Alan Jones, 17, of 3702 Lizzie Mill Road, Selma, was arrested Monday and charged with 13 counts of felonious breaking and entering and nine counts of larceny. He was placed under a $144,000 bond.The other suspects, Noah Crowder, 19, Rafael Chicco, 16, Robert Davis, 18, and Joshua Dale, 17, all of Clayton, were arrested in connection to the larcenies earlier this month. Jones is suspected of acting in concert with them, police reported.
Clayton store robbed
The Family Dollar store in Clayton was robbed Sunday night, police reported.Store employees reported that two black men entered the store on U.S. 70 Business West and forced them to the back of the building. Police Chief Glen Allen said one suspect was armed with a steak knife. Allen said the suspects took off through the back door with an undisclosed amount of cash.One employee suffered a minor injury that did not require medical attention, Allen said. No one else was hurt.The suspect yielding a knife was wearing a brown “hoodie” jacket and camouflage pants, Allen said. The other suspect had a “salt and pepper” beard and appeared older than the other suspect, he said.Anyone with information is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 553-4611. A cash reward is available for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those held responsible. Callers may remain confidential.
Teen charged in robbery, assault
Smithfield Police arrested a local teenager Saturday on common law robbery and assault and battery charges stemming from an incident on April 22.
Felipe Angel Soto, 17, of 515 E. Johnston St. was charged at 6:23 p.m. at his home.Just after 8 p.m. April 22, last Tuesday, Genero Rivera, 30, no address available, discovered Mynor Ich, 16, of 415 Bridge St. unconscious at his home. Ich had been robbed of $300 cash, his wallet and his Guatemalan identification card.Soto was taken to the Johnston Jail and placed under a $51,000 bond.
Two report stolen cars
Police are investigating two reports of stolen vehicles from over the weekend.A Smithfield man reported to police Saturday morning that his truck was stolen from a parking lot sometime between 10 p.m. Friday and 1:50 a.m. Saturday.Victor Rojas, 26, of 523 N. Fourth St., told police at 1:58 a.m. that his Ford F-150 truck was stolen from 1300 S. Bright Leaf Blvd.Sunday afternoon, Leon Patrick Lesmann, 25, of 202 West Davis St., Smithfield, contacted police at 12:51 p.m. Sunday to say his Lexus was stolen from a parking area in front of his home sometime between 5 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. Sunday.
Break-in at Smithfield home
Smithfield Police are investigating a break-in at a woman’s home reported Sunday evening.At 7:36 p.m., Donna Barfield Johnson, 44, of 415 E. Davis St., said someone had just used forcible entry to break into her home through a back door, and then exited through a window. Nothing was reported missing.
