Thief strikes at graveyard
Clayton police are investigating a larceny from a graveyard.

A Clayton resident reported that a metal vase was stolen from a gravesite in Maplewood Cemetery on Regency Drive on Tuesday. The vase was valued at $100, according to a report.

Man accused of destroying evidence
Smithfield police arrested a Selma man Tuesday night on charges of destruction of criminal evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police took Eric Lee Branch, 29, of 503 Hayes St. into custody at 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Blount and Lee streets. He was taken into the Johnston Jail and placed under a $12,000 bond, according to a report.

Family Life Center broken into
Smithfield police are investigating a break-in and burglary Wednesday night at The Family Life Center at 909 E. Lee St. According to a report, someone forced their way into the building sometime between 10 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. Wednesday and stole a flat-screen TV worth $300.

Man reports assault
A local man reported to Smithfield police that he was assaulted Wednesday night. The Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard resident said that someone attacked him with some form of cutting instrument, leaving him with severe lacerations about 9:15 p.m. at 818 East St.

Smithfield police are investigating.

Student arrested for drugs
A West Johnston High School student was arrested for drugs on Wednesday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Justin Adam Ransom, 18, of 408 Allison Circle, Angier, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation. His bond was set at $10,500, according to a report.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said a probation officer and deputy went to Ransom’s home after learning that he might have violated his probation. They found a marijuana pipe, a small amount of marijuana and a grinder in Ransom’s pockets, she said.

Two homes broken into
Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to two home break-ins Wednesday.

A Benson-area woman reported that a digital camera, a handgun and nine rings were taken from her home on Meander Way. A few hours later, a Four Oaks-area woman said that furniture, clothing, tools and 20 bath towels were stolen from a residence on Boyette Road.

In both incidents, the stolen items were reported to be worth more than $4,000.
