Thief nabs storm drain cover
Clayton police are investigating a larceny of a storm drain cover.

Kohnell Management, of Raleigh, reported that the cover was stolen on Kenmore Drive Monday. The cover was valued at $400.

Woman reports scam
A Clayton woman could have lost thousands of dollars in a scam, police reported.

Capt. J.L. Gerrell said a company contacted the woman to inform her that she had won a lottery in Nigeria. When the woman responded, the company told her she needed to send a minimum of $2,000 to receive her winnings, he said. Once the payment was received, the company would give her the prize money in four money orders of various amounts, Gerrell said.

The woman thought the offer sounded suspicious and contacted police. She did not send any money to the company, Gerrell said.

Police investigate fraud
Smithfield police are investigating a report of fraud/ obtaining property or money by false pretenses at the U.S. Cellular store at 218 Venture Dr.

An employee filed the report at 12:18 Tuesday afternoon, and said the incident happened some time between the evening of April 10 and noon April 17.
