Thieves strike Selma homes
Police in Selma are investigating two thefts from area homes, according to reports.On Saturday, a man living on White Street reported to police that he left home about 7 p.m. the prior evening. When he returned home about 1 a.m. Saturday, he found a screen over his bedroom window had been removed and the window had been opened.Two laptop computers, a camcorder, a digital camera, a safe and a pair of shoes were among the items reported missing. An officer’s report listed the value of the stolen items at $2,015. Damage to the window was estimated at $20.Later on Saturday, officers responded to a break-in at an East Noble Street home. The victim told police he left home about 7 p.m. and returned less than two hours later. Upon his arrival, the man said, he found that someone had removed his air conditioning unit from a living room window.The man told officers a 42” television, two laptops and a gold ring were missing from his home. Police valued the property at $2,950. The thief also caused $550 damage to the air conditioner and the window, officers said.Police have a possible suspect in the second incident but not the first. Two face drug charges
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has charged two men with drug crimes following a traffic stop Friday on Interstate 95 near Four Oaks.Detective Lt. Tommy Beasley said officers stopped a car near mile marker 82 about 8:30 a.m. for following too closely to another vehicle. When a deputy approached the car, he caught the scent of marijuana, Beasley said.Authorities seized about one pound of marijuana from the car, Beasley said. Victor Menes, 42, of 225 Nick Road in Goldsboro, and Alcaraz Santos, 52, of an unknown address in Pikeville, were both charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for drugs.
School bus vandalized
Authorities are investigating the vandalism of a school bus parked at South Johnston High School.According to reports, school officials on Saturday found that someone had poured yellow paint and beans on one bus. The person had also thrown eggs at the bus.Detective Lt. Tommy Beasley of the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said the paint and food were quickly washed off. Damage to the bus was estimated at $50.
Trailer stolen from farm
An employee of Brook Hill Farms near Angier reported to authorities the theft of an empty flatbed trailer on Friday. The trailer, valued at $2,500, was stolen from the farm on Zack’s Mill Road. Sheriff’s investigators have no suspects.
Restaurant broken into
Smithfield police are investigating a burglary at the Subway restaurant at 150 S. Equity Dr. Monday.About 1:10 a.m., someone threw a brick or rock through the eatery’s glass door, entered the restaurant and stole $300. The damage to the door was $300, according to a report.
Two charged with drug crimes
Two people were arrested at the Comfort Inn in Smithfield early Monday morning on drug-related charges, according to reports.A Dunn man is in the Johnston County Jail under a $20,500 bond after Smithfield police charged him with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. Police arrested Kendrick Demetrius Williams, 34, of E. Pope Street, at 2:48 a.m. at the Comfort Inn off Industrial Park Drive.At 4:30 a.m., Smithfield police arrested Kristen Paige Adams, 21, of 908 Powell Square in Smithfield on warrants issued by Selma police for failure to appear in court on marijuana possession and driving while license revoked and no insurance. Those warrants were taken out May 1.She was taken to the Johnston County Jail and placed under a $6,000 bond.
Wanted man nabbed in Smithfield
Smithfield police on Friday arrested a man wanted in Wake County for death by motor vehicle.Ned Winfred Godwin, 68, of 410 Birch Street was taken into custody at 10:04 a.m. and placed under a $5,000 bond. The warrant was issued on Thursday.
Clayton man charged with DWI
Clayton police arrested a local man on numerous charges, including DWI, Friday.Dannie Melvin Strickland, 42, of 540 N. O’Neil St., was charged with one count each of driving while license revoked, driving while impaired, speeding and giving false information to a law enforcement officer. He stopped on East Front Street.
Man's motorcycle damaged
A Clayton man reported that his motorcycle was damaged Sunday.The 32-year-old man reported his bike had been pushed over at his home on Parkside Drive. Damages were estimated at $1,200, according to a police report.
Woman injured in wreck
A Clayton woman was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 70 Friday, Clayton police reported.Stephen Riggan and Melinda King, both of Clayton, were both driving west on U.S. 70, when Riggan, 31, of Mohican Trail, merged in front of King, 51, of Stone Place. King struck Riggan's vehicle and was taken to WakeMed for a leg injury.Police cited Riggan for a safe movement violation.
