Wreck injures two
A man and a toddler were taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital Friday night following a single-vehicle accident near Benson. The driver was charged with DWI and reckless driving, and according to a N.C. Highway Patrol report, he was attempting to elude police at the time of the crash.
At 10:44 p.m., Carnice Terrell Warren, 25, of 412 E. Morris Ave., Benson was traveling west on State Road 1173 at 80 mph in his Chevy car, with passenger Tatianna Jones, 2, of the same address. Warren's vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a tree and came to rest in a wooded area.Benson and Four Oaks EMS treated Warren and Jones at the scene before Warren was transported to the hospital for evident injuries. Jones was taken to the hospital for possible injuries, according to the report.
Man hurt in crash
A Clayton man was taken to WakeMed early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle accident on Winston Road near Clayton.Clifford Seth Coats, 25, of 2700 Brigadoon Dr., was driving his Chevy truck when he ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and ran off to the left, striking a ditch and causing the vehicle to overturn. The accident happened at about 2:30 a.m.Coats was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected when the vehicle rolled over. His passenger, Jerrell Scott Coats, 21, of the same address, suffered possible injuries but was not taken to a hospital.According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Clifford Coats was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the wreck. He was charged with reckless driving and DWI.
Clayton man arrested for counterfeit bill
A Clayton man was arrested for trying to use a counterfeit $10 bill at a Smithfield drugstore Friday morning.Smithfield police arrested Richard Louis Davis, 39, of 507 Westminster Dr., just after noon Friday and charged him with uttering a forged instrument. He is suspected of trying to pass off the bill at Realo Discount Drug Co. at 601 N. Eighth St. He was taken to the Johnston County Jail and placed under a $10,000 bond, according to a report.
Medication stolen from JMH
Smithfield police are investigating the theft of a number of medications from Johnston Memorial Hospital.Sometime between 11:41 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday, $267.21 worth of medications went missing from the hospital, according to a report.
Car stolen in Smithfield
Smithfield police are investigating the theft of a car belonging to a Benson car dealership, according to a report.An employee of Vance Auto reported that sometime between 5 and 5:20 p.m. Saturday, a blue Jeep Wrangler was taken from the parking lot at 1231 N. Bright Leaf Blvd. in Smithfield.
Woman charged with trespassing
Clayton police arrested a local woman Sunday after she refused to leave a gas station, according to a report.Robyn Howardia Norwood-Lee, 49, of 237 Keswick Lane, was arrested for second-degree trespassing. According to a police report, an employee at Crown gas station asked Norwood-Lee to leave the business on U.S. 70 West. Norwood-Lee was engaging in affray and remained on the premise after being told to leave, according to the report.
Selma man charged for aggressive behavior
A Selma man was arrested on Saturday for being uncooperative with Clayton police.Enrique Mejia, 51, of 116 River Oak Drive, was charged with resist, delay and obstruct. Mejia was stopped on U.S. 70 near Powhatan Road, according to a police report. He showed aggressive behavior and would not comply with the police officer, according to the report.
