Singing Valentines
The Johnston County Chorale is offering its Singing Valentines again this year. All you have to do is call 934-5981, 938-3218 or 763-9007 and set up a time between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Valentine's Day. A small group of Chorale members will come to your house, your honey's workplace or wherever you wish and serenade your valentine with some of the best love songs written. The cost is $25.

A healthy heart
Learn about your heart this Valentine's Day, and enjoy a free meal, too. On Feb. 13, Dr. Benjamin Atkeson, a Clayton cardiologist, will talk about how to keep your heart healthy. He will speak at noon in the auditorium of the Johnston Medical Mall on North Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield. Lunch will be provided to those who attend. The event is a service of the Education Department at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

'Brown Bag It' next week
The Johnston County Animal Protection League is calling on Johnstonians to "Brown Bag It" next week. The idea is for people to bring their lunch to work and then give the JCAPL the money they would have spent dining out.

"All you have to do is bring a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to the office and put that $5 you would have spent going out to eat in a bag or envelope and mail it in," said Lisa Stone, a JCAPL member. "This is a great way to help the animals of Johnston County have a great Valentine's Day."

Donations may be mailed to the Johnston County Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 607, Smithfield, N.C.27577; or they can be made online at www.jcapl.org. To have a donation picked up, write to jcaplvolunteer@yahoo.com.

Bridal show in Smithfield
A bridal show is scheduled from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Saturday at "I Do" Rentals, 329 E. Market St. in downtown Smithfield. The show will feature wedding planning, cake tasting, photography services, a bridal registry, a deejay and door prizes.
