A popular Benson eatery has reopened in a new location.

Last month, fire destroyed the Mule City Grill on Dunn Street. Last week, the restaurant reopened at 203 S. Walton Ave., in the former home of Benson Barbecue & Chicken.

On Dunn Street, the eatery served up breakfast biscuits and burgers. On South Walton Avenue, owner Lisa McLendon has added seafood and an improved salad bar.

McLendon said her loyal customers and employees were her motivation to reopen. “If it wasn’t for my loyal customers and employees, we wouldn’t have opened as fast as we did,” she said. “My customers and my employees — I couldn’t have done it without them.”

The building on South Walton came with most of the restaurant equipment from Benson Barbecue & Chicken, making a new start easier, McLendon said.

Mule City Grill is open from 6 a.m. till 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. till 2 p.m. Saturdays. The restaurant will extend its hours to 9 p.m. Saturdays in a few weeks. The telephone number is 894-4547.
