Cleveland Cake and Coffee Company has opened a second location in Johnston County.

Rich and Jennifer Girard opened the coffee shop and bakery in the Cleveland community two years ago. Now, they’ve made a second home, in Clayton.

The business offers a variety of homemade cakes, cookies, pastries, breads, bagels and muffins. Also available are gourmet coffees, fruit smoothies, sugar-free sweets and roasted coffee beans sold by the pound.

Southern Made

Two relatives have opened Southern Made out of their Benson homes.

In-laws Patrick Smith and Barry Thomas specialize in decks, patios, garages, storage buildings, shade structures and porches. Smith and Thomas have been in the building industry for several years.

“We were both looking to start our own business and hopefully be successful,” Smith said. The in-laws are willing to travel out of Johnston County for work. “Wherever somebody wants us to go, right now anyway, we are willing to go,” Smith said.

Kal's Pizzeria

A new Italian restaurant has opened in Smithfield.

Kal’s Pizzeria has opened in the former Greeko’s space. The menu consists of pizza, calzones, stromboli, hot wings, pastas, subs, salads and hamburgers. The eatery specializes in stuffed-crust pizzas.

Kal’s Pizzeria is at 388 Venture Drive. Hours are 11 a.m. till 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The telephone number is 989-1559.
