Riverside 'Coffee' becames 'Cafe'

Riverside Coffee has a new name and new owners.

Debra Vaicunas and Angie Renfrow recently became co-owners of Riverside Coffee, now known as Riverside Cafe. Mark and Susan Hall, who own the building, are the other business owners. Sydney Williams owned and managed the business before Vaicunas and Renfrow came along.

“[Williams] wanted to get out of the business,” said Vaicunas, who hails from New York. “Angie was just in the right place at the right time. She said, ‘Deb, I could run that business,’ and Mark got ear of it and we went from there.”

Riverside will continue serving its traditional coffees and popular food items. But Vaicunas and Renfrow have added a few new items, including a daily breakfast special that comes with a free coffee. Also, ham panini, turkey club, tuna fish and roast beef sandwiches are now on the menu.

Riverside Cafe is at 227 E. Market St. in downtown Smithfield. It is open from 7 a.m. till 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 209-0066.

Variety in Four Oaks

Terry Matthews thinks customers can find just about anything in his new store, Variety One.

“I try to bring something different each week,” he said. “I never know what I may come across or have in here. That is why I am a variety store.”

Matthews’ store is in Peachtree shopping center at 5861 U.S. 301 north of downtown. Before opening a storefront, he had space in Brightleaf Flea Market in Smithfield. Matthews said he would still do business there on weekends.

Variety One is an authorized dealer for Cricket and Boost Mobile cellular telephones. Also, the store carries shoes and clothing for men, women and children, toys, tools and cleaning and pet supplies. Hours are 9 a.m. till 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays. The telephone number is 963-9170.

Acupuncture in Clayton

A doctor specializing in acupuncture has opened a spa in Clayton.

Dr. Nicholas Ferez, owner of Chiropractic Partners, has opened Spa Neo, which offers massages, facials, chemical peels, microderm abrasion, hair removal and body treatments. Eventually, Ferez would like to offer manicures and pedicures.

“Our goal is to bring services normally provided in Cary and Raleigh at big-city prices right here to Clayton at prices everyone can afford,” Ferez said. “We want to bring beauty to Clayton one face at a time.”

Spa Neo is at 501 Gateway Drive in the same building as Chiropractic Partners. Hours are by appointment only Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 550-9355. Going Places

Also in Clayton, Patty Van Wyck has opened Going Places! Custom Travel from her home. Wyck has worked in the travel industry for 12 years. She has toured Europe and Italy extensively to inspect cities and hotels for clients.

“If you have a travel destination in mind, I will create a personalized, custom itinerary based upon your preferences with suggestions for transfers, guided tours, shopping and restaurants,” Van Wyck said. “If you are unsure of where you want to travel, I will provide you with a personalized destination recommendation.”

Van Wyck can be reached at 550-0417 or 877-275-1622. Her e-mail is pvanwyck@embarqmail.com.
