Doughnuts arrive on Four Oaks menu

Craving something sweet?

Siblings John, Paul and Irene Strickland can satisfy that hunger. In Four Oaks, the siblings opened Donut Shoppe, which offers an array of doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and other desserts. Hand-dipped ice cream will be available in the upcoming weeks.

“I had a corporation in California and sold it,” John said. “I guess I needed to get my hands into something. Four Oaks doesn’t have a doughnut shop. I thought it would be a good way to draw people from Smithfield, Benson and Four Oaks.”

Another business makes the treats, but soon the Stricklands will be making their own products. “We have our own machine to make the doughnuts, but we just haven’t learned how to use it yet,” John said.

The shop can host birthday parties with cupcakes or birthday cake, balloons, party hats, milk, invitations, party favors and ice cream. Also, customers can order cakes for any occasion.

Donut Shoppe is in Peachtree shopping center on U.S. 301 north of downtown. It is open from 7 a.m. till 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Hours will extend to 9 p.m. when the shop starts selling ice cream. For more information, call 963-6600 or write to jstrick122@aol.com.

New pizzeria owner

Also in Four Oaks, Ronald Wade is the new owner of Doughboys Pizza.

New menu items include steak sandwiches, wraps, boiled hot dogs and hamburgers. Breakfast items are available from 5 till 10:30 a.m. and include pancakes, scrambled eggs, tenderloin and gravy biscuits. and sausage, egg, bologna and cheese sandwiches.

The pizzas are now made with new sauces, crusts and spices. “You know, sometimes when you bite into a pizza, you get a boring taste,” said Wade, who has worked in the restaurant industry for 23 years. “When you bite into this pizza, you have so many flavors hitting you at one time.”

Nothing less than exceptional customer service is what people should expect, Wade said. “Good, friendly smiles, a nice attitude and awesome food is exactly what they are going to get,” he said.

Doughboy’s Pizza is at 209 E. Wellons St., beside Dunn’s Gas & Grocery. Hours are 5 a.m. till 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Pizza delivery is available. The telephone number is 963-2411.

Dry cleaning in Selma

Eddie and Carolyn Pilkington have opened Selma Cleaners. “We have friends and customers who asked us to come up to the Pine Level and Selma area, and that is why we did,” Carolyn said.

The Pilkingtons opened Quality Cleaners & Alterations in the Cleveland community 10 years ago. Both businesses offer wedding-gown preservation, alterations and dry-cleaning services.

Selma Cleaners is at 107 N. Webb St. Hours are 7 a.m. till 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturdays. The telephone number is 202-9988.
