Ice cream in SelmaThe former Sweetwater’s Grille & Cheesecake Co. is now Sticky’s Ice Cream. The owners are David and Laurie Hamelin.
Handcrafted cheesecake, a Sweetwater’s specialty, is still on the menu, but diners can also choose from turkey, ham and club sandwiches. An array of Breyers ice cream can be turned into milkshakes, root beer floats and make-your-own sundaes and banana splits. Sugar and chocolate-dipped cones are also available.
David Hamelin hopes customers will come in for a sweet treat after they have finished their main courses at his restaurant or elsewhere. “Eat all you want, but have dessert at Sticky’s,” he said.
Sticky’s Ice Cream is at 112 S. Raiford St. in downtown Selma. Hours are noon till 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Orders can be called in starting at 11 a.m. The telephone number is 202-5622.
Home to become officesHomeTowne Realty Commercial is turning one of Clayton’s oldest homes into office space.
Brack Wilson, broker for HTR Commercial, said the house at 104 N. Fayetteville St. dated back to 1875. Workers are replacing the roof and adding antique furniture and a handicapped-accessible bathroom. The Clayton-based company wanted to keep the original structure of the house intact.
“We are trying to fix the house to whereas if, for example, two years from now we moved out of there a business, a family could move in two weeks later,” Wilson said. “We’ve even hired a consultant to get the house placed on the National Historic Registry.”
Workers hope to finish by October.
