SMITHFIELD — District II Town Council candidate Tony Gupton announced Friday he will stay in the race. He had told The Herald earlier this week he was dropping out and endorsing opponent Perry Harris, citing professional commitments.

"My desire to run has not wavered," Gupton said. "There were some personal and professional possibilities that needed my attention."

Look for a full story on Gupton and Harris in next week's Herald. Both are seeking to fill the seat being vacated by Daniel Evans, who is running for mayor.
