JACKSON, Tenn. - Cameron Maybin and Scott Cousins each hit home runs to lead the Carolina Mudcats to a 7-1 victory over West Tenn in game one of the best-of-five Northern Division Championship Series at Pringles Park on Wednesday night.
Maybin hit a three-run blast to the opposite field in the third inning, with Cousins drilling a long ball to right in the sixth against Diamond Jaxx starter Joe Woerman for a 5-1 lead.
Willie Glen worked five innings en route to the victory for the Mudcats. Glen pitched through duress in the first inning, walking the bases loaded after fanning the first two hitters of the game. West Tenn's leading hitter Adam Moore grounded out to shortstop on a 3-2 pitch to keep the game scoreless.
The Mudcats bullpen was its usual brilliant entity, with Ryan Tucker, Jesus Delgado and Tim Wood combining for four shutout innings.
Chris DeLaCruz paced the nine-hit attack with three singles, including a two-run infield single in the eighth to lift the lead to 7-1.
Wednesday night's game was delayed 13 minutes from the start due to rain.
