Another expected change in ownership has left Southern National Raceway Park without plans to run a regular 2009 schedule of races. The track, owned by Kirk Leone, is back on the market for sale after an agreement with Del Richards, who operated the track in 2008, ended in December.

"It's such a great facility", Leone said in an emailed statement of the raceway. "We'd really like to get someone in here who can fully take over and give the great fans, sponsors, drivers and crew members of the Central/Southeastern part of the state the owner/operator they truly deserve. Things happen for a reason, and anyone who could take over here will find themselves with some of the most loyal racers and race fans in the country."

The four-tenths mile paved oval in Lucama just across the Johnston County border is one of the most popular regional tracks on the east coast. Plans are in the works for several touring series to run events in 2009 at the track, as they have in years past.

"I would like to thank everyone from the staff, sponsors, fans, drivers and crew for their support of the track and their continued support for the future owner," Leone said in his email.
