Bingo, pizza
Family Fun Night with Bingo and pizza is scheduled for Friday, May 8, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on U.S. 70 Business between Smithfield and Clayton. Pizza will go on sale at 6 p.m. The cost is $5 for two slices, a soft drink and dessert. Bingo play will begin at 7. The cost is $5 for five games. Proceeds will go to the Johnston County Relay for Life.
CPR training
Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield. The cost is $30. To sign up, call 934-8481.

AWAKE in Clayton
AWAKE, a free sleep-apnea support group, will hold its first meeting from 5:30 till 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. Dr. Kim Goring will speak on sleep apnea and its links to high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Specialists will be on hand to showcase the latest treatment equipment and check pressures of CPAP machines. A meal will be provided. The Johnston County Mental Health Center will offer “Live Your Life Well,” a seminar series, in May. Here is the schedule:

May 20 — “Tips for Parenting Teens.”
May 27 — “Managing Stress During Challenging Times.”

‘Hero Packs’
A Johnston County 4-H'er is filling backpacks for children of U.S. soldiers who are overseas.
For her “Hero Packs,” the 4-H'er is seeking donations of stationery, journals, envelopes, stamps, pencil pouches, pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, crayons, coloring books, stickers, rules, stuffed animals, playing cards, yo-yos, key chains, miniature Etch A Sketches, three-inch by three-inch photo albums, disposable cameras, photo frames, photo books, scrapbook supplies and small scrapbooks.
Johnstonians may mail or carry their donations to the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield, N.C. 27577. Mailed donations should be to the attention of "Hero Packs," in care of Johnston County 4-H.
