Carolina Mudcats' standouts Zack Cozart and Travis Wood were named the Southern League's Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week ending June 7.

The Mudcats stood two games behind Huntsville entering this week's action with six games remaining in the first half of the season. Carolina will wrap up the first half with a five-game series at Tennessee before starting the second half at home against Jacksonville on Monday.

Cozart blasted four solo homeruns last week, three of which proved to be the go-ahead or game-winning runs for a red-hot Carolina club that has won 19 of its last 23 games. On June 4 against Tennessee, he belted a walk-off homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and his solo blast in the third inning on June 6 at Jacksonville was the difference-maker in a 2-1 Carolina victory.

Cozart's fourth solo shot of the week broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning of the Mudcats' 2-0 win over the Suns on June 7. The Memphis, Tenn. native hit safely in all seven contests and notched three multi-hit games. Cozart added two doubles to his four homers, leading the league with six extra-base hits and an .828 slugging percentage. He also paced the circuit with seven runs, lifting his season total to 38, fifth-best in the league.

Wood was masterful in two starts for the Mudcats, tossing 15 scoreless innings in two Carolina victories. He matched Tennessee's Casey Coleman pitch-for-pitch on June 2, striking out six and allowing three hits in six innings. There was no score when Wood exited, but the Mudcats prevailed in 10 innings. The Little Rock, Ark. native followed that strong outing with a spectacular one, recording his first career complete game shutout against Jacksonville on June 7.

Wood, who won his fifth straight decision, yielded only three hits and struck out a career-high 11 batters. After an infield single in the fourth inning, Wood retired the game's final 17 hitters. In the process, Wood lowered his league-leading ERA from 1.38 to 1.22.
