Sleep apnea support

A sleep apnea support group will meet from 5:30 till 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Active Healthcare at the Meridian Center, 935 Shotwell Road, Clayton. The quarterly meeting of A.W.A.K.E. — Alert, Well & Keeping Energetic — in Johnston County is sponsored by Active Healthcare. CPAP Sleep specialists will be on hand to showcase the latest equipment and to provide educational resources. A meal will be served. Stop-smoking class

A stop-smoking class will meet from 6 till 7 p.m. July 7, 9, 14 and 16 at the Johnston County Public Health Department, 517 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. The class is free. To register, call Jaime Pearce or Kimetha Elliott at 989-5200.

Pruning fruit trees

A workshop on pruning fruit trees is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Central Crops Research Station on U.S. 70 Business west of Clayton. The workshop will focus on summer pruning techniques to reduce winter pruning, training limbs to grow at the proper angle and direction, taking soil and tissue samples for testing, and how to interpret the results.
