John Leroy Noles, 62, of 360 Reedy Prong Church Road, Benson, died Sunday, June 28, at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Born July 25, 1946, in Harnett County, Mr. Noles was the son of Fay Peacock Thornton of Wendell and the late John Nathan Noles. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Mr. Noles was a sergeant at Central Prison for 30 years. Later, he was a detention officer in Johnston County for 10 years. Mr. Noles was a member of New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, 301 W. Main St., Benson. The Revs. Jeff Hayes and Ashley Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Johnson family cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Sheryl Paynter Noles; a stepson, Frankie Dale Clary of LaCrosse, Va.; a stepdaughter, Tammy Clary Davis of LaCrosse, Va.; two sisters, Julia McLamb of Benson and Sylvia Jean Bailey of Zebulon; four stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 234, Newton Grove, N.C. 28366.
