Dorothy Virginia Parrish, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 27, at The Oaks of Carolina in Raleigh.

Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Johnston County, Mrs. Parrish was the daughter of the late Joe and Gladys Price. She was the widow of Joe Parrish. During World War II, Mrs. Parrish served in the U.S. Army for two years. She was a member of the E.L. Roberson Center and the Silver Liners Dance Group. Mrs. Parrish volunteered at the Montessori school in Tarboro and was involved in erecting the women’s World War II memorial in Washington, D.C.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Whitley Memorial United Methodist Church in Smithfield. Surviving are her son, Jeffery Parrish of Alto, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Bernheisel of Dana Point, Calif., and Betty Holden of Garner; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
