Anne Sanderson Ogburn, 61, of Smithfield died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Her family was by her side. Born July 16, 1948, she was a daughter of Frances Sanderson of Four Oaks and the late John Sanderson.

A graduate of Four Oaks High School, Mrs. Ogburn received a bachelor's degree in education from Appalachian State University and a master's in education from Georgia State University. After returning to Johnston County, she spent more than 30 years with the public schools, first as a reading specialist and then as coordinator of the elementary school curriculum. Mrs. Ogburn was a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield, Delta Kappa Gamma and the N.C. Museum of History Associates.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at First Baptist Church in Smithfield. A graveside gathering of family and friends followed in Sunset Memorial Park.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 34 years, J. Victor Ogburn; her daughter, Boo Carver of Clayton; her son, Vic Ogburn III of Charlotte; two sisters, Joan McLendon of Smithfield and Carolyn Baggett of Roseboro; and two brothers, John Sanderson of Willow Springs and Joe Sanderson of Fuquay-Varina.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Anne Sanderson Scholarship Fund, Johnston Community College Foundation, P.O. Box 2350, Smithfield, N.C. 27577; or to the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577.
