Fall Frenzy

"Fall Frenzy," a class for children ages 4-5, will meet from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 19, 21 and 23 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield. Trail celebration

A celebration of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail will take place from 2 till 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in Portofino, the horse-friendly community at 3986 N.C. 42 east of Clayton. Music in Smithfield

John Allen and Bluegrass Magic will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Orchard House Booksellers, 117 N. 3rd St., Smithfield. Orchard House offers open mic from 6 till 8 p.m. Tuesdays and from noon till 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Dooodlebugs

"Doodlebugs" is an art class for children ages 18 months to 3 years. It meets from 9:15 till 10 a.m. Fridays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield. Children work with dough, pudding, gelatin, crayons and watercolors. The class is $8.50 for Smithfield residents and $11.50 for others. For more information, call Tammy McLamb at 934-1408.

Haunted adventure

Darkside Haunted Estates has opened at 11875 N.C. 222 West, Middlesex. Here's the remaining schedule: Oct. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Hours are 7 till 10 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger. A "Low Scare Night" for kids is scheduled from 7 till 9 p.m. Oct. 29. Admission is $5, with a portion of the proceeds going to the youth group at Samaria Baptist Church. On Oct. 23 and 24, bring four 16-ounce cans of food and receive $3 off the admission price. Country Tonight

The next Country Tonight Music Show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at The Ice House Theatre, 112 N. Webb St., Selma. Nancy and Tammy Dail and the Country Roads Band will perform. Doors at 7 p.m. Admission is $10. For reservations, call 252-237-6199.

Artwork, photography

Artwork and photography by Amy Devereaux will be on sale from 1 till 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at 512 Contessa Court, Clayton. A portion of proceeds will go to charities, including the Red Cross.

Happy Mediums

"Happy Mediums," an art class for teens, will begin Oct. 15 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The class, with a focus on painting and pottery, will meet from 3 till 4:30 p.m. Thursdays through Dec. 10. The cost is $96 for Smithfield residents and $128 for others. Pottery class

Ricky Skaggs
