SSS Booster Club BBQ Chicken Dinner

The Smithfield-Selma High School Athletic Booster Club will hold a barbecue chicken plate fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 30. Chicken plates will be served from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Plates are $7 and include a half-chicken, green beans, boiled potatoes, and bread. Eat in or take out. Clayton honoring state championship football team

Basketball

Johnston County Men's Fellowship Basketball League

Registration for the 2010 season of the Johnston County Men's Fellowship Basketball league is now open. Games will be played in Clayton and Smithfield this season. Teams can include up to 15 players; players must be 16 or older by Feb. 1. The entry fee is $400 per team. Kingdom Builders Fellowship International Ministries organizes and conducts the league. Activities in addition to the games will include gospel entertainment, ministry and mini job fair, and All-Star Games during the season. Registration and fees are due by Dec. 15. McGee's Crossroads Youth Registration

In-person registration for youth basketball with the McGee's Crossroads Athletic Association will be held from 9 a.m. till noon on Oct. 24 at the McGee's Crossroads Middle School gym. Registration is open online now at gomcaa.com.

Garner Optimist Basketball Player Evaluations

Carolina Warhawks' Inaugural Tournament

The Carolina Warhawks semi-pro football team, a non-profit organization based in Johnston County, will hold its inaugural golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 23 at the Country Club of Johnston County. The four-person superball event begins with a shotgun start at noon. The entry fee is $80 per person; the field is limited to 45 teams. Cleveland Wildcats Golf Classic

The 2009 Cleveland Wildcats Golf Classic will be held Friday, Nov. 13, at Reedy Creek Golf Course. The four-person superball event begins with a shotgun start at noon. The entry fee is $240 per team, which includes all golf fees, a post-round dinner, team and individual awards. Proceeds from the event will support the Wildcats' trip to Cooperstown, N.Y., for a baseball tournament. Entries are due by Nov. 6. Shaw University Alumni event

The Raleigh-Wake Shaw University Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at Riverwood Golf Course in Clayton. Fall Sports Injury Clinic

Horsemanship Clinics scheduled for area

Half-day horsemanship classes will be conducted monthly by Blaine McLaughlin in Four Oaks from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Classes are scheduled for Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. A maximum of five riders can participate in each session, and the issues that will be covered will be determined by the riders. The cost is $75 per rider and pre-registration is required. Johnston County Horse Show Series

The Johnston County Horse Show Series is back for another season of events at the Johnston County Livestock Arena in Smithfield. The fun but competitive shows are open to riders of all ages (classes of competition are: 12-and-under, 13-17 and 18 and older) and experience. Multiple classes of competition are available and the cost is $7.50 to enter each class of competition. A negative Coggins test is required to compete. The final show of 2009 is scheduled for Nov. 21 (a double points event).
