The Johnston County Chapter of the National Association of Retired and Active Federal Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Golden Corral on North Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield.

'Color Me Healthy'

A nutrition workshop for childcare providers is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. "Color Me Healthy" is for childcare providers working with children ages 4-5. The cost is $3, and the deadline to register is Nov. 2.

'Trunk or Treat'

"Trunk or Treat" is scheduled from 5:30 till 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Cleveland Fire Station on Cleveland Road in the Cleveland community.

Last day for market

The Clayton Farm and Community Market will celebrate its final day of the 2009 season on Saturday, Oct. 31. The last day will feature a costume contest for dogs at 10 a.m.; a costume contest for kids at 11 a.m.; and a pumpkin-carving contest at noon. Bring your own pumpkin; the market will provide decorations and carving utensils. The market will be open from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m.

Burlington reunion

Employees of the former Burlington Industries plant in Smithfield will hold their reunion from 2 till 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Smithfield Middle School, 2455 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. The cost is $12.50 per person.

'HOLYween' in Clayton

Parenting class

The Johnston County Health Department will offer a parenting class in November. Sessions are scheduled from 3 till 5 p.m. Nov. 4 and 18 at the Health Department, 517 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. Topics includes infant health, immunizations, lead safety, infant CPR, first aid, choosing a day-care center, dental health, discipline and car-seat safety. To register, call 989-5200.

Contestants sought

Halloween in Clayton

Clayton will hold its Halloween parade at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. The parade route begins at the large parking lot on Main Street and ends at 4 p.m. at the Town Square located at Main, Fayetteville, Second and O'Neal streets. For more details, call 553-1555.

Tool drive

Cleveland Library

The Cleveland Library has dropped the fee requirement for library cards issued to patrons living outside of Cleveland Township. Johnston and Wake residents 5 and older may obtain a library card for free. The library is at 5533 N.C. 42 West in the Cleveland community.
