1951 - Glendale was set to name its first mayor, an honorary position for the unincorporated community. His duties included crowning the "popularity queen" during the Glendale carnival and appearing in a school yearbook. Teachers at Benson School visited the homes of 306 students in an effort to get acquianted with all students' families.
