Harris, Ogburn win Smithfield council race

Perry Harris defeated Tony Gupton to fill the seat of Daniel Evans, who ran unopposed for mayor, in a hotly contested race in South Smithfield's District 2 that drew almost 500 voters. Incumbent Vic Ogburn won a fifth term in District 3 (downtown and North Smithfield) by only 15 votes, narrowly holding off challengers Travis Scott and Charles A. Williams in a race with lower turnout.

Other races in Smithfield were uncontested. Daniel Evans won the mayor's seat, Zach Crocker will represent West Smithfield District 4 and incumbent Charles Williams will serve another term in District 1.

District 2

Perry Harris, 249 votes, 55%

Tony Gupton, 204 votes, 45%

District 3

Vic Ogburn, 113 votes, 39%

Charles A. Williams, 98 votes, 34%

Travis Scott, 77 votes, 27%
