Harris, Ogburn win Smithfield council race
Perry Harris defeated Tony Gupton to fill the seat of Daniel Evans, who ran unopposed for mayor, in a hotly contested race in South Smithfield's District 2 that drew almost 500 voters. Incumbent Vic Ogburn won a fifth term in District 3 (downtown and North Smithfield) by only 15 votes, narrowly holding off challengers Travis Scott and Charles A. Williams in a race with lower turnout. Other races in Smithfield were uncontested.
