LAGRANGE - South Johnston left little doubt Friday night, topping North Lenoir, 84-6.
The win moved the Trojans to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. South meets Triton this Friday with the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference championship and a possible top-seeding in the upcoming 3-A playoffs on the line.
Triton (8-2 overall, 4-0 conference) rallied to beat C.B. Aycock 22-21 last week, a team that South Johnston beat 28-21 earlier this season.
South Johnston rolled up 564 yards of offense in its victory over North Lenoir (2-8, 0-4 conference). Trojans' senior quarterback Pat Dunigan threw for 454 yards and seven touchdowns, going 16-of-19 through the air.
Javonte Burns, Brandon Bussiere, Justin Sanders, Dee Williams and Dan Stanley pulled in TD catches during a 49-point South first half. Williams led the Trojan receivers with 217 yards and three touchdowns.
The South Johnston defense held an opponent to a touchdown or less for the sixth time this season. The Trojans are giving up just 11 points per game.
