Class gathers after 50 years
The Pine Level High School class of 1959 held its 50-year reunion Sept. 5 at Robbins Nest restaurant.On hand were Joey Creech Werner, Doris Capps Spicer, Linda Cooper Crocker, Pem Hawkins, Judy Hines Flowers, Sarah Baker Newcomb, Martha Jones Clark, Jean Rackley Peedin, Nell Creech Starling, Jerry Ellis, Lynda Stallings Gulley, Kester Kornegay, Gail Starling Michael, Joyce Brady Evans, Donnie Braswell, Dick Starling, Douglas Phillips and Bill McArton.Joyce Brady Evans led a memorial service for class members and teachers who had passed away since the last reunion.Teachers present were Shirley Davis, Jack Harris and Bobby Stott.Jerry Ellis of San Francisco traveled the farthest to attend the reunion. Class member Gail Starling Michael of Tulsa, Okla., has the most grandchildren. Bill McArton of Pine Level is the oldest class member, and Pem Hawkins of Pine Level is the youngest.The class donated a book to the Smithfield library in memory of Cornelia Crocker.
