CLAYTON - Town leaders saw plans last week for a new pavilion at All-Star Park on the North Side.
The building at the Front Street park will house restrooms. Now, the park has temporary restrooms.
The 1,230-square-foot pavilion was designed to look like a bungalow. It blends in with the residential neighborhood, Mayor Jody McLeod said.
Larry Bailey, the town's parks and recreation director, has worked with a group of residents on the project. The committee chose from three designs, Town Manager Steve Biggs said.
The project will cost about $300,000. The money is part of a $7 million bond package Clayton voters approved last year. Most of the money -- $4 million -- will go to parks and recreation projects.
Construction of the All-Star Park project will likely wrap up by the end of March, Biggs said.
Community centerTown leaders are hoping to open the Clayton Community Center on Nov. 20.
The center on Amelia Church Road was supposed to open Nov. 6, but contractors who are building turn lanes on the road were delayed by underground wires, Biggs said.
The road-widening project has held up the center's grand opening.
Developers of the nearby LionsGate community were supposed to build a turn lane, but the sluggish economy changed the plans.
