The cost is $35 for Town of Smithfield residents or $55 for non-residents. Practices will begin in late November with games starting in December. 3-on-3 Basketball TournamentThe Smithfield Parks Dept. will be hosting a one-day three-on-three tournament on Dec. 5, beginning at 8 a.m. The tournament groups will be: junior boys (ages 12-13); senior boys (ages 15-18); and men's open. The cost is $50 per team for the Boys Junior & Senior age groups, with a three-game guarantee. The cost is $75 per team for the Mens age group, with a four-game guarantee. All games will be played at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The deadline to register is Dec. 1.
Lifeguard Training in DecemberA lifeguard training class will be held at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center in December. Participants must be age 15 or older, able to swim 300 yards and able to swim 20 yards on their back while holding a 10-pound weight. Classes will be held Dec. 21-23 and 28-29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants must attend all classes. The registration fee is $20 and is due before the qualifying activities; the course fee is $130 for Town of Smithfield resident and $150 for others. All fees are due by Dec. 22.
Racquetball 101Racquetball 101 is for anyone interested in learning the basics of the game of racquetball. Classes will be offered for kids ages 10-16 from 6 until 7:30 and for ages 17 and up from 7:30 until 9 on Tuesday nights, beginning Nov. 10. The class includes four sessions. The cost is $25 per person; SRAC members receive a 10 percent discount. The instructor is Sampson Richardson. Class is limited to five participants in each age group.

Bridge ClubThe area club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Smithfield Operations Center. Drop-ins are welcome. www.selma-nc.comYouth Basketball RegistrationThe Selma Parks and Recreation Department will conclude registration for the 2009-10 basketball season for boys ages 4-18 and girls ages 4-15 (as of Jan 1, 2010) on Friday (Nov. 6). The cost for Town of Selma residents is $25 or $30 for non-residents. Teams will begin practice after Thanksgiving with games being played in January and February. Games will be played Friday evenings and Saturdays. The deadline to register is Nov. 2.
Harrison GymRibbon CuttingThe Selma Parks and Recreation Department welcomes the community to the Harrison Gym ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. There will be light refreshments following the ceremony in the Richard B. Harrison Alumni Building.
Selma Men's Open League Basketball RegistrationThe Selma Parks and Recreation Department is offering a men's open basketball league for the citizens of Selma and surrounding communities that is designed in a recreational, but competitive environment. Registration packets are available now until Dec. 11. The cost is $450 per team. Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday evenings beginning in January. A single-elimination tournament will be held at the conclusion of the regular season.
