Participants must be age 15 or older, able to swim 300 yards and able to swim 20 yards on their back while holding a 10-pound weight. Classes will be held Dec. 21-23 and 28-29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants must attend all classes. The registration fee is $20 and is due before the qualifying activities; the course fee is $130 for Town of Smithfield residents and $150 for others. All fees are due by Dec. 22.Bridge ClubThe area club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Smithfield Operations Center. Drop-ins are welcome. Winners from the Nov. 10 session were Perry Boone and Alfred Taylor of Raleigh (64.88 percent), James Creech Jr. and Madge Pierce of Benson (58.33), Kenneth Lensing of Selma and La Vee Bailey of Smithfield (51.19) and Jim Fish of Dunn and Gloria Hill of Benson (50.00).3-on-3 Basketball TournamentThe Smithfield Parks Dept. will be hosting a one-day Three-on-Three Tournament on Dec. 5, beginning at 8 a.m. The tournament groups will be: junior boys (ages 12-13); senior boys (ages 15-18); and men's open. The cost is $50 per team for the Boys Junior & Senior age groups, with a three-game guarantee. The cost is $75 per team for the men's age group, with a four-game guarantee. All games will be played at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Register online at ymcatriangle.org (select the Johnston County branch). Participants must turn 4 years old by Jan. 5. The season will begin in January and runs through March 4. Leagues will be offered in Clayton and the McGee's Crossroads community. The fee is $66 per player, which includes a jersey and trophy. Sign-ups end Dec. 11. The best shooter in four divisions (9-and-under, 10-13, 14-17 and 18-and-older) will win a turkey. The cost is $2 per person. Registration is required by Nov. 18. Registration forms are available in the Selma Parks Dept. office.
