Sheila Webster Boneham will sign copies of her book -- "Rescue Matters!" -- from 10 till 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Orchard House Booksellers, 117 N. 3rd St., Smithfield. The book is subtitled "How to Find, Foster and Rehome Companion Animals." Dr. Boneham has written 16 books.

Bentonville tickets

Advance tickets are on sale for the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Bentonville, the largest Civil War battle fought on North Carolina soil. The event will take place March 20-21, 2010. Tickets purchased before March 1, 2010, are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 7-12. After March 1, tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children 6 and younger attend free.

More than 3,500 re-enactors and 30,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, which will include two battles, military and civilian encampments and special educational programs.

Book signing

Jenifer Bubenik will sign copies of her first book, "Thoughts from the Chicken Bus," from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the library at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. The book is a memoir about her solo backpacking journey from Belize to Ecuador. Bubenik is a graduate of Clayton High School and Appalachian State University. Musical in Smithfield

Smithfield-Selma High School will present “School House Rock Live” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 7-8, in McClean Auditorium on campus. The school is on Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield.
