Activities planned include swimming, pictures with Santa, crafts, a holiday movie, cookies and hot chocolate. The cost is $5 per person up to a family of four, with $1 extra for each additional person. Children age 3 and under are free. (SRAC members receive a 10 percent discount.)

Lifeguard Training in DecemberA lifeguard training class will be held at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center in December. Participants must be age 15 or older, able to swim 300 yards and able to swim 20 yards on their back while holding a 10-pound weight. Classes will be held Dec. 21-23 and 28-29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants must attend all classes. The registration fee is $20 and is due before the qualifying activities; the course fee is $130 for Town of Smithfield residents and $150 for others. All fees are due by Dec. 22.

Bridge ClubThe area club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Smithfield Operations Center. Drop-ins are welcome. Winners from the Dec. 1 session were M. www.selma-nc.comSelma Men's Open League Basketball RegistrationThe Selma Parks and Recreation Department is offering a men's open basketball league for the citizens of Selma and surrounding communities that is designed in a recreational but competitive environment. Registration packets are available through Friday, Dec. 11. The cost is $450 per team. Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday evenings beginning in January. A single-elimination tournament will be held at the conclusion of the regular season.

ymcatriangle.org (select the Johnston County branch). Participants must turn 4 years old by Jan. 5. The season will begin in January and runs through March 4. Leagues will be offered in Clayton and the McGee's Crossroads community. The fee is $66 per player, which includes a jersey and trophy. Sign-ups end Dec. 11.
