Marine Corps training

Pfc. Mark Aaron Samosky has graduated from Marine Corps basic training at Parris Island, S.C. He is the son of Mark and Beverly Crumpler of Clayton and John Samosky of Garner.

The 13 weeks of boot camp included physical exercises, classroom instruction and field assignments. Samosky is now in infantry school at Camp Geiger. Later, he will join a unit at Camp Lejeune.

Samosky is a graduate of West Johnston High School. He is the brother of Stuart Samosky and the grandson of Aaron Jackson.

Air Force training

Air Force Airman Gaylin E. Diaz has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Cheryl Burleson of Smithfield and Gale Burleson of Four Oaks.

The airman completed eight weeks of training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Coast Guard training

Coast Guard Seaman Jay V. Taylor has graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

He is the son of Dale R. Threatt-Taylor and Barrington D. Taylor, both of Clayton.

During the eight-week program, Taylor received training in water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting, marksmanship and physical fitness.

Taylor is a 2008 graduate of Garner Magnet High School.

Air Force training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Jamiel M. Lassiter graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Patricia Russell of Clayton.

The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline, the Air Force's core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Lassiter graduated in 2007 from Smithfield-Selma High School. He received an associate's degree in 2009 from ECPI College of Technology in Raleigh.
