Did you know that more women die from heart disease than any other illness? At noon Friday, Feb. 5, in the Medical Mall auditorium, the public is invited to a light, healthy lunch and an informative talk about the latest treatments for cardiovascular disease in women. To reserve a seat, call 938-7736. The speakers will give their talks again at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 9 in the auditorium.
Want to learn about the advantages of breastfeeding your baby? New parents are invited to a class from 7 till 9 p.m. Feb. 11 in Room 1404B of the Medical Mall. Call 938-7736 to register. The fee is $30 per couple.
Health professionals will offer free screenings from 7:30 till 10 a.m. Feb. 16 in front of the Medical Mall auditorium. Screenings include blood glucose (fasting required), blood pressure and a measure of body mass index.
Want to learn CPR or need to recertify? A beginner's class will meet from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. Feb. 17 in Room 1404B of the Medical Mall. A recertification class will meet from 1 till 4 p.m. Feb. 10 in Room 1404B of the Medical Mall. To register, call 938-7736. The fee for each class is $71 and includes materials.
Want to learn advanced cardiac life support or need to recertify in pediatric advanced life support? A two-day ACLS class will meet from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Feb. 16-17 in the Medical Mall auditorium. A PALS recertification class will be from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Feb. 12 in the mall auditorium. To register for either class, call 938-7736. The fee is $200 and includes materials.
Learn some new dance moves and rev up your heart at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 23 in front of HealthQuest in the Medical Mall. Instructors will offer free lessons in line dancing, the shag and Masala Bhangra. Afterward, take a tour of HealthQuest, the fitness center of Johnston Health.
New parents are invited to childbirth and Lamaze classes March 6 and 13 in Room 1404B of the Medical Mall. The first Saturday session is from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. The second Saturday session is from 8 a.m. till noon. The fee for the classes is $80 per couple. Registration in advance is a must. Want to learn how to better manage your diabetes? A class for outpatients will meet from 8:30 a.m. till 5 p.m. Feb. 23 in Room 1404B of the Medical Mall. Participants must have orders from their doctors to attend and must contact the hospital's scheduling department for an appointment.
If you've lost a loved one or have been diagnosed with diabetes, you can find information and encouragement from others in a support group. The diabetes support group will meet from 6 till 8 p.m. Feb. 16 in rooms 1404A and 1404B of the Medical Mall. The grief support group will meet from 6 till 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in the new interfaith chapel of the patient tower. "Finding Your Way" focuses on finding a new normal, slowing the flow of tears and remembering how to have fun. The events are free.
