Hallie Vernon "Hal" Strickland, age 92, a retired tobacconist, died Saturday morning in Johnston Medical Center. Hal was born September 7, 1917 in Johnston County to the late Jesse Lloyd and Rodella Creech Strickland. Hal earned a business degree at Kings Business College in Raleigh and was a retired tobacconist with American Tobacco Company. He was a member of the Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church, the Pine Level American Legion and a former member of the Pine Level Lions Club. He was a loving and loved Husband, Father and Papa.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Pine level Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dannie Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Creech Cemetery near Pine Level.
Surviving are his wife, Janie Woody Strickland; children, Patricia Strickland Oliver and husband David of New Bern, Sandra Strickland Strickland and husband Dana of Smithfield, D. Michael Strickland and wife Brenda of Greenville and Janie Lynn Strickland Hinnant and husband Alan of Wilson; grandchildren, Kelli Oliver Kirkpatrick and husband Alan, Shannon Oliver Tant and husband Tommy, Jonathan Strickland and wife Lauren, Emily Strickland, Tracy Strickland Tousey and husband Clay, David Strickland and wife Kati, Adam Hinnant and Drew Hinnant; great grandchildren, Hallie, Clark and Kelli Tant, Landon and Tyler Kirkpatrick, Wesley Strickland and Samuel Tousey.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Monday just prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Pine Level Missionary Church, P. O. Box 340, Pine Level, NC 27568.
