Johnston Co. Scramble for the Arts Tourney

The Fourth Annual Johnston County Scramble for the Arts Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, March 26, at the Country Club of Johnston County. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30. Funds raised in the event support various Johnston County Arts Council projects, including in-school events and scholarships to Johnston Community College. The entry fee of $60 per player covers all golf fees, prizes and a post-round meal. Johnston County Schools employees may register for $50 per person. Lighthouse Christian Academy Golf Classic

Lighthouse Christian Academy will hold its fifth annual golf classic superball tournament on Friday, April 23, at Reedy Creek Golf Course. The tournament entry fee, which includes all golf fees, top team prizes, drinks and dinner, is $65 per person or $260 for each four-person team. Proceeds will support the academy. Relay Road Runners tournament benefits ACS

The Relay Road Runners Team will hold a golf tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society on March 19, at Riverwood Golf Club. The event begins with a shotgun start at noon. To register, send the $65 (made payable to the American Cancer Society) per person fee, your name, address and phone number to Hearbert Locklear, 213 Fawn Lane, Clayton NC 27577.

GB Memorial Basketball Games postponed

The annual Gary Blackmon Memorial student-faculty basketball games at South Johnston High School will be rescheduled at a later date.

Clayton Girls' Summer Camp

The 2010 Clayton Lady Comets Basketball Camp will be held June 21-24 at Clayton High School. The camp is open to ages 6-15 and costs $75 per camper. Clayton High coach Marlon Lee will lead the camp staff, which also includes former UNC player Tresa Brown-Tomlinson and former Tennessee player Misty Greene. Camp brochures are available in the Clayton High School main office.

Recreational

Outdoor Racquetball coming to Clayton

The Church at Clayton Crossings will host a racquetball event sponsored by the Military Racquetball Federation on Saturday, March 20. The MRF helps promote racquetball and physical fitness throughout the military worldwide. An outdoor racquetball court will be constructed in the parking lot of the church and anyone in the area is invited to come out and try the sport. There is no charge and all equipment is provided. Johnston County Horse Show Series

The Johnston County Horse Show Series for 2010 has set its schedule. Events are scheduled monthly at B&M Stables in Four Oaks. Shows are planned for March 20, April 17, May 22, June 26, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4. Carolina Mane Event Show Circuit Events

The Carolina Mane Event Show Circuit is the state's newest all-around open horse show circuit. Categories will include Western, Huntseat, Halter, Dressage, Jumping and more. Half-day horsemanship clinics will be held monthly at B&M Stables in Four Oaks. Classes are limited to five riders. Carolina Reds 45+ Baseball Team

National Anthem Tryouts at Five County Stadium

The Carolina Mudcats will host tryouts for National Anthem singers from 9:30 a.m. till noon on Saturday, March 20, at Five County Stadium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. All singers (solo and groups) wanting to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Five County Stadium this season, including those who have sung in years past, must try out on this date. Johnston County Senior Games Registration

Registration for the 22nd annual Johnston County Senior Games is open through March 27. More than 30 athletic and art events will be held April 19-30 throughout Johnston County. Senior Games are open to anyone living in Johnston County age 55 or older. The Games promote fun, fitness, and fellowship. Athletic events include basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, cycling, bowling, bocce, golf, billiards, croquet, spin casting, swimming, tennis and track and field. Arts events include heritage, literary, visual and performing. The registration fee to participate in a variety of events is $10. Registration forms are available at area parks and recreation offices, senior centers, Council on Aging, and Clayton Physical Therapy & Wellness. Senior Games are part of North Carolina Senior Games, which have over 30,000 participants statewide. The Games are sponsored locally by United Way of Johnston County, Clayton Physical Therapy & Wellness and the Selma Lodge of Woodmen of the World. Tournament Trail

The 2010 Piedmont Bass Classics Tournament Trail is now under way and continues through November at Falls Lake. A total of 25 tournaments are planned. Tournaments feature sponsor bonus prizes and year-end incentive prizes. The trail could pay out more than $200,000 in cash and prizes. Campbell Ladies' Clinic

The second annual Campbell Football Ladies' Clinic will be held from 9 a.m. till noon on Saturday, March 27, in the Campbell Football Fieldhouse. 2010 N.C. Shrine Bowl Combines

The 2010 N.C. Shrine Bowl Combines will be held April 17 (at Matthews Butler High School), April 24 (at Boone Watauga High School), May 1 (at Eastern Alamance High School) and May 8 (at South Central High School). Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with tryouts beginning at 10 a.m. The cost is $20 per player (cash only). Players will be measured by height and weight and be tested in the vertical jump, 40-yard dash, pro agility shuttle and bench press repetitions (185 pounds).
