Courageous movie screening

A free screening of the movie "Courageous" is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Community Baptist Church, 130 Commerce Parkway in the Cleveland community. The church will provide a nursery for children 3 and younger. For more information, visit cbministry.net or call 773-3131.

Pancake supper

A pancake and sausage supper is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Johnson Memorial Church, 8280 N.C. 50, two miles south of McGee's Crossraods. The cost is $7 per plate, with takeout available. Proceeds will go to the Johnston County Relay for Life.

Italian supper

An Italian supper is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Grace Episcopal Church, 111 Lee Court, Clayton. The cost is $8 per plate. For reservations, call 553-2810.

Bible Institute

The Western Assembly Bible Institute will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Western Assembly headquarters building, 9766 U.S. 701 north of Newton Grove. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturday of every month through October. The registration fee is $20. For more information, call 910-594-0397.

Bingo at Elizabeth

Bingo play is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, 4269 Cleveland Road, Smithfield. Proceeds will benefit projects of the United Methodist Women.

Mt. Calvary

Union services will be held Jan. 27-29 at Mt. Calvary Holiness Church of Deliverance, 114 Lakeview Drive, Four Oaks. The speakers are Elder Mary Lyde, 7 p.m. Friday; Minister Belinda Eason, 6 p.m. Saturday; and Co-Pastor Vernessa Covington, 11 a.m. Sunday.

Baptist Men's Day

A celebration of Baptist Men's Day is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Thanksgiving Baptist Church, 6701 N.C. 42, two miles east of Buffalo Road near Clayton. Ed Croom, superintendent of Johnston County schools, will speak. Croom has been superintendent since 2009.

Before that, he had been a deputy superintendent, principal of South Johnston High School, assistant principal of Southern Wayne High School and a teacher at Princeton School.

Croom is a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, where he is a deacon and Sunday School teacher. For more information, call 965-3204 or email steve_reed@bellsouth.net.

Couple's conference

A couple's marriage conference, "Oscar Winning Relationships," will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 15772 N.C. 50 North in the Cleveland community.

The primary goal of the conference is to provide couples with practical instruction in how to be married. Topics range from the history of marriage to relationship management and repair. To register, call 772-8415 or 631-0456.

Country breakfast

A country breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at New Zealand PFWB Church, 5312 Meadowbrook Road in the Meadow Community. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. For more information, call 894-4848.
