AAU Boys Team TryoutsTryouts for an area AAU boys basketball team for seventh and eighth graders will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Kenly gym. Basketball Camp Scholarships OfferedWake Electric is offering basketball scholarships to both the Kellie Harper Basketball Academy at N.C. State and the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at UNC this summer. Students entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade in this fall are eligible for the scholarships. Youth SportsJohnston Youth Fellowship Basketball LeagueThe Johnston County Youth Developmental Fellowship Basketball League, sponsored by the Kingdom Builders Fellowship International Ministries, will be held March 1-22 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The league focuses on skill development with a background of Christian principles. The league is open to grades 4-6 and the fee is $30 per player. GAYSL Spring Baseball, Softball & T-BallRegistration for Garner area youth baseball and softball with the Garner Area Youth Sports League is open until Feb. 15. Leagues are offered for ages 7-16 in baseball, 6-16 in softball and T-Ball for ages 5-6. The fees are $75-95 for Town of Garner residents or $95-115 for non-residents. Greater Cleveland Baseball RegistrationRegistration is now open for the spring recreational baseball season with the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association. EquestrianJohnston County Horse Show SeriesThe 2012 Johnston County Horse Show Series schedule has been announced. All events will be held at the Johnston County Livestock Arena, is set. Each show starts at 8:30 a.m. and is managed by Blaine and Michelle McLaughlin. Show dates for 2012 are Feb. 25 (pre-season warmup), March 24, April 21, May 26, June 24, Aug. 3-4 (at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh) Sept. 29, Oct. 27 and Nov. 17. The Johnston County HUNTER Show Series will be held at 9 a.m. on May 5, June 2, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15 this year. A negative Coggins test is required on all horses that participate.
