SMITHFIELD — A new furniture store has opened here.

Emmett Martin, who lives near Benson, is the owner of Warehouse Furniture Buys, which opened last month in the former Jones Brothers building.

The 50,000-square-foot space carries furniture from more than 50 companies, including Thomas-ville, Lexington Furniture Co. and Hekman. Lamps, framed art and other home accessories are available.

Store manager Chris Dupree said the items come from showroom and market samples and from factory closeouts. The variety is wide — from traditional leather couches to bold couches and chairs with zebra patterns and Western themes. Mattresses, bunk beds, entertainment centers, artificial potted plants and oversized lamps are also in stock. All items are sold right off the sales floor.

“We are kind of a niche store,” Dupree said. “We do not do special orders. When you come in, what you see is on the floor is what you take.”

Dupree said the store’s prices were competitive with other discounters. “For what we sell, our prices are as good as anywhere in North Carolina,” he said. “If you are looking for premium furniture in the middle-of-the-road price, this is the place to go. We got things here you can buy up to 75-percent cheaper than retail.”

Customer service is a top priority for Dupree and his staff. “If a lady comes in here with a swatch of her sofa and she wants to find a chair that matches, we are going to help her find that right chair,” he said. “We aren’t just going to ignore her and let her find it herself if she needs help. We want our customers to be happy with their purchase.”

Warehouse Furniture Buys is at 1324 N. Bright Leaf Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. till 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Saturdays. The telephone number is 934-3653. The Web site, www.warehousefurniturebuys.com, is under construction.
