Moms to meet

The MOMS Club of Clayton will meet at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at Everett Chapel Baptist Church, 307 Everett Ave., Clayton. The club will provide snacks and drinks. Health-care reform

A meeting on health-care reform is scheduled from 3 till 5 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Mt. Zion Church of Deliverance, 908 S. Ave., Smithfield. The meeting will focus on reducing costs, guaranteeing choice and ensuring affordable care for all.

CPR training

The American Red Cross will offer training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and in the use of automated external defibrillators. The training is scheduled from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in the banquet room in the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Booker Dairy Road. The cost is $30. Neighborhood cookout

The first Brush and Floss Neighborhood Cookout is scheduled from 3 till 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry at Flowers Plantation in Clayton. The event will feature live music, free hamburgers and hot dogs, face painting, inflatable slides and free snow cones. For more information, call 550-5251.

Alzheimer’s workshop

A workshop titled “Dealing with Alzheimer’s” is scheduled from 10 till 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. The workshop will feature Belinda Braswell, an Alzheimer’s caregiver, advocate and wife. To attend, call 989-5380.

Mothers Unlimited

Mothers Unlimited of Johnston County will hold its June meeting on Tuesday, June 9. The morning meeting is scheduled from 10 till 11:30 a.m. at Screamin’ Mimi’s, 813 Town Centre Blvd., Clayton. The evening meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Lonestar Steakhouse, 13049 U.S. 70 Business, Clayton. Bunco play will follow the meeting.

Blood drive today

A blood drive is scheduled from 2 till 6:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 3) at the American Legion Building on U.S. 301 north of downtown Benson. Donors will have the chance to win a cruise.

Yard sale Saturday

A yard sale is scheduled from 7 a.m. till noon Saturday, June 6, in the Four Oaks Bank parking lot on Main Street in downtown Clayton. Proceeds will go to the Yes We Can Johnston County Coalition, which will also raffle a gas grill, television and video-game console. Tickets will be $2.

Two-family reunion

The Puckett and Lancaster families will gather Saturday, June 6, in the fellowship hall at Bethesda Baptist Church on U.S. 70 Business between Clayton and Smithfield. Those attending are asked to bring food and drink for supper at 6 p.m. Families members are also asked to bring photos to share.

Retirees to hold picnic

The Johnston County Chapter of Retired and Active Federal Employees will hold its annual picnic at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Clemmons Educational State Forest, 2411 Old U.S. 70 West, Clayton. To attend, call Evelyn Ellis at 284-1545 by June 5.

Grants available

The Johnston County Community Foundation is accepting grant requests for community projects. Grants are available for nonprofit groups that serve general charitable needs in Johnston County. Applications are available at nccommunityfoundation.org (under “Grants”); or by writing to Jeanne Lawson, North Carolina Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, N.C. 27609. The deadline for submitting applications is June 24.
