Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Holt's Pond Church of God, 1285 Progressive Church Road, Princeton. The cost is $7 per plate, with delivery available for orders of 10 or more plates. Plates come with half a chicken, green beans, potatoes, bread and cake. North Carolina 4-H is celebrating 100 years of youth development. A Johnston County celebration is scheduled fom 6:30 till 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Agricultural Center, 2176 N.C. 210, Smithfield. The Wells Family will perform, and Fall Showcase entries will be on display. A silent auction will be held, and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be available. The Archer Lodge community will hold its annual Country Auction on Saturday, Oct. 3. Barbecued pork, homemade Brunswick stew, hot dogs and french fries will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. An auction at 1:30 p.m. will offer pear preserves, pepper relishes, quilted items, jellies, jams and wood items.
Wilson's Mills Elementary School will benefit from the next McTeacher's Night at McDonald's, 1209 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. Teachers and parents will serve up fries and drinks from 5 till 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. A portion of sales will go to the school.
A five-week course in office computer operations will meet Sept. 28-Oct.29 in Room 164 in the Elsee Building at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. till 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The course will cover Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Quickbooks. The cost is $180. Starting Oct. 1, the dressbarn store in Smithfield will invite customers to "adopt" Biscuit, a stuffed plush dog, for $5. The net profit of $2 for each one sold will go to the American Cancer Society. The store is in Carolina Premium Outlets on Industrial Park Drive.
The Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Business After Hours on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The social is scheduled from 5 till 7 p.m. at Community Home Care & Hospice, 155 Meghan Circle in Blackstone Plaza in Selma.
